  • 32 GB available hard-disk space (computers with more than 16 GB RAM require more disk space for paging, hibernation, and dump files)

Description: 

Windows Web Server 2008 is a server operating system designed to be used in Internet-facing web-serving environments. It integrates Internet Information Services 7.5, ASP.NET, and .NET Framework to enable organizations to deploy web pages, applications, and services. It is not designed to handle other roles, such as print server or domain controller.

 

The R2 version improves power management and adds administration and diagnostic tools.

 

Service Pack 1 enhances Hyper-V to use physical memory more efficiently, improves the visual capabilities of remote desktop clients, and adds support for more addresses when using DirectAccess to securely access enterprise shares.

 

Here are some notable features of this product:

  • The integrated Server Manager console provides the means to add, remove, and configure server roles, role services, and features.
  • IIS 7.5 provides an open platform for hosting ASP.NET and PHP applications from a single server, using a common set of administrative tools for management.
  • Security features include Windows Service hardening, Public Key Infrastructure enhancements, a new bidirectional Windows Firewall, and next-generation cryptography support.
  • Supports up to four multicore processors and up to 32 GB RAM.

 

Important: The R2 version requires a 64-bit system. Organizations that want to run Windows Server 2008 on a 32-bit system can receive a donation of this product and then obtain the older SP2 version from Microsoft, either by downloading or by purchasing the DVD-ROM.
